Mark 9:2 “And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.”

Can you imagine what would have happened if God decided to speak through the burning bush, to Moses in the presence of his wife and children? You can be sure they will all be so carried away that they will lose the essence of the manifestation.

God loves it when his children gather to worship him and he talks to them corporately but the deeper things of God are personal and private. No wonder David kept talking about the secret place:

Psalms 81:7 “Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder: I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.”

Psalms 91:1 “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

David was a man of the secret place, a place of retreat and separation, no wonder he fought sixty six battles and lost none. You can’t defeat a man that has been with the Lord!

This same self-withdrawal, retreat or isolation tactics was a mystery Jesus himself, even though God, engaged to the fullest, while he was here on earth.

Mark 1:35 “And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed”

Matthew 14:23 “And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.”

A major secret to the success of Jesus was his ability to keep away from the crowd from time to time. We even saw that whenever he needed to reveal deep truths to his disciples he takes them away from the crowd:
