Genesis 28:19 “And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.”

Jacob missed God completely at Bethel and had to come back there several years later, but the question is this; why is Bethel so special?

Bethel is the House of God, it is the place of the altar or fellowship. The plan of God is for man to operate from Bethel and dominate the world from there. God doesn’t have any problem with your expansion and enlargement as long as Bethel remains your headquarters!

Bethel was the first place God met with Abraham at the Promised Land.

Genesis 12:8 “And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.”

Abraham understood the principle of making Bethel the headquarters. Any believer that operates from Bethel will easily conquer the world. He will always have direction, influence, impact and dominion.

Jacob truly went to Haran and God helped him to be successful but all he had was not secured until he returned to Bethel. Divine security can only be found at Bethel. God had to return back to Haran and practically forced Jacob back to Bethel. Hear this:

Genesis 35:1 “And God said unto Jacob, Arise go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.”

God told Jacob several years later to return to Bethel and dwell there. He didn’t ask him to visit the place, raise an altar, do sacrifice and leave, He commanded him to dwell there!

Our Bethel today is our prayer altar and place of fellowship with God. Once your altar is in place, your life will be in place! Until Bethel becomes your headquarters, error will be your second nature.

In case your prayer, fasting, worship, studying of the word and fellowship is out of place, you need to reignite it. Never let the fire at your Bethel go out.
