DELAYED GRATIFICATION
Proverbs 27:23,24 “Know your sheep by name; carefully attend to your flocks…Don’t take them for granted…”

Proverbs 27:26 “You can knit sweaters from lambs’ wool, and sell your goats for a profit;”

Proverbs 27:27 “There will be plenty of milk and meat to last your family through the winter.” (MSG)

Our focal scripture today is one that is very interesting. Many people work against the principle highlighted here and that is why many people will never become rich and wealthy.

The principle is called delayed gratification. It is the law of compound interest. One major problem of the poor is that they want their business to give them all what they desire in life within the shortest possible time.

In order words, rather than wait patiently to get the golden egg from their duck on daily basis, they prefer to slaughter the duck and pack all the golden eggs that will last them for eternity.

It is a poor man that makes good profit from a business and spends all on luxury and liabilities without plowing a percentage back for the sustainability of the business.

In our focal scripture, King Solomon gave us the great wisdom of delayed gratification. He said, “We should carefully attend to our flocks and once they have grown up and are well established, we can then knit sweaters from the lambs’ wool, and sell our goats for a profit”. Not only that, once the farm becomes self-sustaining we can also milk them for our families.

Don’t let milking the goats, selling them off and removing their wool be your primary focus. Invest in them first, create a process and think of your comfort last.

Hear this:

Psalms 23:2 “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.”

When you lead your sheep to still waters and green pastures, they will lie down for you to get milk and remove their wool! Don’t kill your business at infancy, give it time to grow and flourish.

Comfort will come but do the hard work first. Don’t put the cart before the horse, Selah!
