DISCIPLE’S PORTION-1

DISCIPLE’S PORTION-1
John 6:11 “And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down and likewise of the fishes as much as they would”

When Jesus finished giving thanks and started distributing the five loaves and two fishes, he gave it to some specific group of people first. Over five thousand people were on that field that day but when it was time for sharing and distribution, he gave to the disciples first!

There is a special place in the agenda of God that is reserved for only the disciples. You may argue that we are all equal before God and He is no respecter of persons but then you must realize that among sons, there are sons.

We are equal in salvation but we are not gifted the same way. Hear this:

Matthew 25:14 “For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.”

Matthew 25:15 “And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.”

Many people are born again, spirit filed, tongue talking but are not disciples. A disciple is one who pays the price of followership and diehard obedience. I’ve met several believers who still run their lives on the dictates of the flesh. They are like those other men who only want bread but not the bread Provider.

In the midst of the multitude Jesus separated his disciples and gave them first. There were many followers of Jesus who are entitled to his blessings, but he made his disciples the custodian.

He knew for instance that the disciples will not hoard the bread, they will distribute it as instructed. Can heaven make you a custodian of the blessings?

A disciple is one that is entrusted with the secrets of the Divine. They are the ones that knows the ways of God. They don’t just see the miracle, they know how to generate it.

REMOVING LIMITATION

REMOVING LIMITATION
John 6:11 “And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down and likewise of the fishes as much as they would”

One other thing I noticed about thanksgiving on this occasion is that it broke the hold of limitation over the bread. Physically speaking, there was no way five loaves and two fishes could feed those five thousand hungry men because it is limited.

What Jesus did was to break the power of limitation that kept the bread and fishes little. I noticed two key things he did. One was to give thanks as we have discussed. The truth is that whatever we have can become much, by the power of thanksgiving.

The second thing Jesus did was powerful as well. He distributed the bread! Jesus was the Master, he was the convener of the meeting, the preacher, the miracle worker, the counsellor and so on. If anybody was fatigued and famished during that meeting it was certainly Jesus.

He had been ministering to people and was yet to eat. If anybody needed food and energy at that moment it was Jesus. But the only thing on his mind was the thought of feeding the multitude. He therefore went ahead to distribute the small boy’s food.

When you share, distribute or give, you set multiplication in motion by destroying the power of limitation. Hear this:

John 12:24 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die it abideth alone: but if it die it bringeth forth much fruit.”

Jesus knew that holding unto the small meal will never trigger harvest. He saw the small boy’s food as a seed for multiplication. Many people want harvest but they will never let go of what is in their hands.

When you let go of what is in your hand, God will let go of what is in his own hands and trust me, His hands are far bigger than yours. When you share what is in your hands, the hold of limitation is broken over it and you can never quantify how large it can grow.

Luke 6:38 “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom…”

Distributing the little you have is to engage the power of limitlessness, use it!

HE GAVE THANKS-3

HE GAVE THANKS-3
John 6:11 “And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down and likewise of the fishes as much as they would”

…From yesterday…

Jesus used the principle of thanksgiving to bring Lazarus back to life. When you know how to give God post-dated thanks, you put Him on the spot.

If you look at that scripture critically you’ll discover that Jesus actually put God on the spot. The Bible says, “…And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.”

Jesus all along has been telling them about his “Father” who is in heaven. He had boasted so much about God the Father, and heaven has been very proud of him. On this occasion, he lifted up his eyes before the great crowd that had gathered and spoke to the Father whom they had not seen.

I guess the crowd also lifted up their eyes waiting to see who his Father is and what he can do. At that point, the onus was on the Father to honour the son. When you thank him and lift him up before the crowd, He shows up! He cannot deny Himself. Learn this about our Father and never forget it!

1Thessalonians 5:18 “In every thing give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

1Thessalonians 5:18 “Whatever happens, keep thanking God because of Jesus Christ. This is what God wants you to do.” (CEV)

We know from the above scripture that all God want from us is to give thanks. Never end a prayer of request or petition without giving thanks, else you truncate the faith process. There is nothing thanksgiving will not give you.

Heaven just can’t resist a thankful heart. The devil knows this so he keeps “encouraging” the believer to murmur, grumble, get depressed and only see what God has not yet done.

Thanksgiving is not about shouting when you see answers, it is about shouting after request, long before the answer shows up physically.

I know you have been praying hard concerning that matter but why not give him a post-dated praise over it today?

HE GAVE THANKS-2

HE GAVE THANKS-2
John 6:11 “And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down and likewise of the fishes as much as they would”

…From yesterday…

I remember once when my younger son was asked to bring gifts for their teacher’s in school. He promised that he was bringing a set of gift items he saw at home that he felt his mum was not using. The teacher was already expectant and thanked us even though she has not seen the stuff, wise woman!

We didn’t even know what the “thank you” was all about but we collected it all the same (I’m laughing now).

It was when we got home that he said what he did! The mum was visibly angry, I remember she was telling him that; “How can you go and make a pledge without consulting me first”. The young boy just kept quiet.

Despite all the anger, the preciousness of the gift and all the plan she had for it she had to “reluctantly” let go for my son to present. That boy and the teacher put my wife on the spot!

When you send “thank you” ahead, you commit the person involved to perform at all cost, convenient or not. When Jesus gave thanks on that faithful day, I’m sure the whole of heaven started running helter-skelter looking for bread! To take it a step further, Jesus started distributing the bread.

I’m sure at that junction, heaven had to start raining down bread because they cannot afford not to answer Jesus. Jesus already committed them and all eyes were on God! How I wish you understand this principle. This is practical demonstration of faith!

That was not the first time Jesus did that, here is another example:

John 11:41 “Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.”

He used the same principle to bring Lazarus back to life. When you know how to give God post-dated thanks, you put Him on the spot.

HE GAVE THANKS-1

HE GAVE THANKS-1
John 6:11 “And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down and likewise of the fishes as much as they would”

Giving thanks is the highest expression of faith. Jesus taught us a very deep spiritual principle at that instance. It is the principle of thanksgiving as it relates to faith.

A pivotal point when it comes to prayer, is our ability to give thanks even when we have not physically seen results. It is often difficult to do this because we normally tie the answers to our prayers to the physical manifestation.

The devil knows this and he’ll keep encouraging us to keep praying rather than give thanks for the answers. To get answers, we follow a cycle which begins with asking, confession of the word, giving of thanks and then answers.

Many believers follow this chain but breaks it off at the junction of thanksgiving. When you want to demonstrate and complete the cycle of faith, you must engage the force of thanksgiving.

When you give thanks, you are simply telling God that you trust Him totally. What Jesus simply did in thanksgiving was hanging the performance of the miracle on God.

If you tell a man “thank you” for something he is yet to do, you have put him in a position where he cannot but answer! There is power in saying thank you.

God is excited when you say thank you before manifestation because faith is at work. Jesus provoked heaven to come down and multiply the loaves and fishes even though the people were many.

John 6:11 “And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks he distributed to the disciples…”

Jesus didn’t attempt to distribute to the people until he had given thanks. All Jesus did was put heaven on the spot! Even if God wasn’t planning to multiply bread that day, his Son had committed him!

There is a way you pray and give thanks that puts God on the spot!

THE HAND OF GOD-2

THE HAND OF GOD-2
John 6:11 “And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down and likewise of the fishes as much as they would”

…From yesterday…

The intelligence of our God is unfathomable. He knows who to meet on your behalf. He knows how to figure out all the complications in the matter. He knows how to help you source for capital and all the resources you will ever need. Such is the “Hand of the Master”.

When you hand things over to him, you quit from your own struggles and efforts. His hand is supernatural and powerful. Hear this:

1 Kings 18:46 “And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.”

When the hand of God comes upon a man, he enjoys supernatural speed. Elijah demonstrated this here, when you want to experience the supernatural, hand the matter over to God.

Let me show you another instance:

Mark 5:39 “And when he was come in he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado and weep the damsel is not dead but sleepeth”

Mark 5:41 “And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is being interpreted Damsel, I say unto thee, arise”

Mark 5:42 “And straightway the damsel arose and walked for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.”

The young girl was stone dead in the hands of her parent, but in the hand of the Jesus, she came back to life.

Friend, the things you’re struggling with are the way they are because they are in your hands. Wisdom demands that you hand them over to God. When he takes hold of it, there will be a definite turn around.

Why not simply bow in prayer and tell Him; “Father, I commit my family, ministry, destiny, business, career, academics and all into your hands. Let there be a positive change today in Jesus name!”

His hands are the hands of the Master, nothing can be compared to them!

THE HAND OF GOD-1

THE HAND OF GOD-1
John 6:11 “And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down and likewise of the fishes as much as they would”

Our focal scripture begins by telling us that Jesus took the loaves. It means he received, took or collected the small boy’s lunch. In order words the miracle didn’t take place until there was an exchange of hands.

The small boy’s lunch of five barley loaves, and two small fishes remained the same until it got into the hands of Jesus. Once in his hands it metamorphosed into abundance.

The hand of Jesus is the Hand of God and the Hand of the Creator of heaven and earth. When things gets into His hands, little becomes much. Small becomes great. Insufficient becomes more than enough.

The Hand of God is the Hand of grace, power and might. There is no impossibility in His Hands. Before a miracle can take place, there must be an exchange of hands. Your small will remain small until you hand it over to the Master of the universe.

The challenge many have with God is that they want to hold unto things and expect it to multiply in their own hands. Nothing great will ever happen if you don’t hand it over to Him.

How do I hand it over Him?

Psalms 37:5 “Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass”

Proverbs 3:6 “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

You place things in His hands by acknowledging Him and committing everything you want to do to Him in prayers. The problem most times is that we want to have our plans, execute it then talk to God about it when challenges show up.

God should always be the first point of call. When you start any venture with Him, He guides you every step of the way. God knows how to take little and transform it. He knows how to convert seed into harvest.

The intelligence of our God is unfathomable.

ORDER

ORDER
John 6:10 “And Jesus said Make the men sit down Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down in number about five thousand.”

Order is the accurate arrangement of things. It is an organized condition of people or items properly arranged in harmony. Order is a condition that depicts proper functioning of things.

If we take a look at our focal story from Luke’s account we will see this clearly:

Luke 9:14 “For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company.”

Jesus told them to sit in companies by fifties, this shows order. The challenge many people have in life is not about the miracle itself, it is about disorderliness all around them. Anywhere there is disorder, chaos and confusion rules.

God works with clarity and precision. Chaotic situations are manifestations of the activities of the devil. The devil operates in atmospheres that are muddled and frenzied. Once you see confusion all around you, there is a demonic activity going on and the first thing you need is order.

Hear this:

Genenes 1:2 “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”

As a student of the Bible, I have come to discover that the primary work that God did in Genesis 1, during the creation of heaven and earth was that of putting order in place.

The whole earth was jumbled up. Sun and moon were located at the same place. There was no firmament to divide the day from the night. Plants and animals were buried inside the ground. Birds were swallowed up inside the sky and so on.

When God showed up, he simply caused a separation of the things that were muddled up and everything took their positions till date. Since then, the cycles and systems that God put in place has sustained the whole earth.

Beloved, could it be that the miracle you’ve been laboring for has been muddled up? It might not be about the miracle, it might just be about order. Put order in place and watch your miracles come in like a flood!

John 6:10 “And Jesus said Make the men sit down Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down in number about five thousand.”

…From yesterday…

Psalms 110:1 “The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.”

Since you’ve been fighting solo, how many battles have you won?

Beloved, there is a sitting position a believer takes that makes God rise and fight on his behalf. This is a dimension in the spirit that is meant to make our Christian journey smooth and easy.

I once read an interesting story about a mountain climber. This man was a very skillful climber. He has been climbing for several years and knows his way around pretty well. But on a particular occasion, as he was climbing, he missed his steps and fell. He grapple to hold unto anything in sight to survive.

Finally, he was able to grab a rope. He held on tightly to the rope but the weight of his backpack and his own weight started telling on the rope. He felt the rope may give way but he held on all the same. After hours of struggling, he finally did that one thing he has been avoiding, he called out to God in prayer.

He screamed on top of his voice and said, “God help me!” He shouted that repeatedly for three times and like a dream he heard a strange voice.

The voice said, “I am God, my son let go of the rope. Rest and trust me!”

The guy couldn’t believe his ears, how can God ask him to release “his life line and rest?”

He just shouted back into the dark, “Is there anybody else there?”

The following morning, other climbers met his dead frozen body holding tightly to a rope just 3 feet above a soft flat surface on the rock beside a hollow. If he had let go of the rope he would have fallen on the soft flat surface and hide inside the hollow, safe from the cold!

A wise man said, “Let go and let God!”

Friend, your strength is too small, learn to rely on the strength of the Rock of Ages! Selah!

REST-2

REST-2
John 6: 10 “And Jesus said Make the men sit down Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down in number about five thousand.”

…From yesterday…

The Holy Spirit knows all roads and not only that, He knows the best one that will get you to your desired destination.

Friend, how long will you keep gambling and trying to figure out the road? One thing I’m sure of is the fact that you will not live long enough to try out every available road before choosing the best.

Hear Him:

Psalms 32:8 “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.”

Isaiah 48:17 “Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.”

In both scriptures, you’ll discover that God never said, “the road you must follow”, He simply said the road you “should follow”. The onus is therefore on you to submit your will to His will. A man that sits down enjoys divine leading.

Another thing rest does for the believer is provision. When those men sat down following the instruction of Jesus, they all ate bread and even had leftovers. Supply is another thing you enjoy in the place of rest. If those men decided to go and work to buy bread, they might faint on the way.

God sure knows how to move the heaven and the earth in order to meet our needs. He knows how to get what we want across to us without hustle. He is the Shepherd and He knows where the grass is green (Psalms 23).

Let me also mention that; any man who knows how to rest and sit down around God will enjoy safety and also see his enemies defeat.

Psalms 110:1 “The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.”

Since you’ve been fighting solo, how many battles have you won?
