NEHEMIAH’S PRAYER-2

NEHEMIAH’S PRAYER-2
Nehemiah 1:11 “O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king’s cupbearer”

…From yesterday…

Nehemiah, already told God that He’s a covenant keeping and mercy providing God. He then went ahead to ask for mercy! God cannot deny Him mercy. Nehemiah simply put God on the spot.

Hear this:

1Samuel 17:46 “This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.”

It was exactly the same principle that David used here. David already knew that God delivers and fights for his people, so he simply asked Him to do it again. He knew that even if it is not on the schedule of God to come fight Goliath that day, He must do it because he already put Him on the spot.

The young man knew that God will not disgrace Himself. He got God committed to His covenant and promises. You must understand that dimension to your prayers.

The problem with many believers is that they are not even sure if what they are asking God is possible or not. They really don’t know what has been promised and what has not. They go fidgety to the place of prayers.

Their first thought is always, “What if it didn’t happen?” Well, there is nothing He has promised us that He will not do. He is not like your boss that has promised to raise your salary for the last one year and he’s now blaming COVID-19.

Friend, God is not a man, so He cannot lie but you must develop your spiritual intelligence to the level of knowing Him that much.

You can always get God committed to your course!

NEHEMIAH’S PRAYER-1

NEHEMIAH’S PRAYER-1
Nehemiah 1:11 “O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king’s cupbearer”

When you study critically the prayer of Nehemiah from Nehemiah 1:5-11, you’ll notice it was a discussion. That is the prayer of a man that has a relationship with the Father.

He didn’t just badge into the presence of God he observed the protocol of praise, worship and adoration before going into the lengthy discussion. He knew where they were wrong and he prayed a specific kind of prayer, it is called the prayer of intersession.

A prayer of intersession is a prayer of mediation, in which a man can stand in the gap for another man, people or place. It will interest you to know that, from history we know that Nehemiah was born in exile. He has never been to Jerusalem, he only knew about his people from stories he was told. He also knew enough of God’s word to know why his people went into captivity and what needed to be done.

He started by calling God, the One “that keepeth covenant and mercy” and ended it by asking for mercy! I love this man.

Friend, when you don’t know who God is and what he can offer, you wouldn’t know how to ask Him. It is possible for you to get God into a tight place, such that He’ll have no choice but to answer you! I hope your religious mind can take that.

One of the reasons why you must be conversant with scriptures is so that you’ll know what God promised and the requisite protocol for obtaining it. If you don’t know it, you can’t boldly approach God in the place of prayer.

Nehemiah, already told God that He’s a covenant keeping and mercy providing God. He then went ahead to ask for mercy! God cannot deny Him mercy. Nehemiah simply put God on the spot.

BEYOND THE TEARS-2

BEYOND THE TEARS-2
Nehemiah 1:4 “And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept and mourned certain days, and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven,”

…From yesterday…

Hear me, you can pray without fasting but you cannot fast without praying! We saw instances in the Bible of people praying without necessarily fasting, but not a single instance where someone fasted without staying with God in the place of prayer and the word.

Why do we need to pray when challenges come? I want you to note that prayer is not primarily a medium of asking God for stuff. If your relationship with the Father is on the basis of “give me, give me” then you have a major problem.

Prayer is primarily a medium of cultivating a relationship and intimacy with God. It is like becoming well acquainted with a friend. If you have a friend that doesn’t call you or relate with you except when they’re in trouble, what is usually your disposition towards them?

Your basis of entering into a relationship with people shouldn’t be because you want to go and get something or milk them, it should primarily be because of fellowship.

The same thing goes with prayer. It enables you to primarily develop intimacy with the Father. Knowing Him well, loving Him, understanding His ways and above all recognizing His voice.

The problem is this; when you only talk to God when in trouble, even if He speaks and proffers solution you wouldn’t know!

So, Nehemiah cried to let out the emotions, (and I’m not saying you must cry), he fasted to subdue the flesh and its desires then he did the most important thing; he prayed.

Hear me, don’t go to the place of prayers to go complain and tell God what He already knows. He’s not blind nor deaf, He knows your pains and challenges, so go to Him to listen for answers and solutions!

Every smart and spiritually intelligent believer knows that in prayers, what God tells you is more important than what you tell Him! Therefore, go to the place of prayers and listen to HIM, Selah!

BEYOND THE TEARS-1

BEYOND THE TEARS-1
Nehemiah 1:4 “And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept and mourned certain days, and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven,”

In our focal scripture, when Nehemiah heard all the negative reports about his people and the city of Jerusalem, he sat down and wept and mourned for some days. He let out the negative emotions and God didn’t fault him. He knew that:

Psalms 30:5 “…weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”

Friend, Nehemiah cried but his attention was on the morning. He knew there is a morning ahead that brings joy. What you do after the tears is what matters!

He cried but he knew that sitting down, crying and mourning doesn’t proffer solutions, it just enables you to let out the negative emotions and energy that is building up within you. May I also add that the faster you come out from the crying mode, the faster your night season ends, and you get translated into your morning of joy.

Now, what did Nehemiah do beyond the tears?

The Bible says, he fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. He wasn’t just crying like a hopeless man, he switched over to fasting and prayer. When a challenge hits you, the remedy is not the crying but the fasting and prayers.

No wonder, Jesus came several years after and gave us the principle behind it:

Mark 9:29 “And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.”

Friend, prayer and fasting are two powerful forces that destroys and demobilizes demonic installations. One of the primary things that fasting does is to subdue the flesh. When challenges come and you respond by weeping, the enemy will want you to stay perpetually in that pity party mode, but fasting helps to subdue the desires of the flesh and helps you concentrate on God.

However, when you fast and don’t pray, you’re simply on hunger strike because after the fasting there will be no solution and you’ll revert back to weeping!

IT’S OK TO CRY

IT’S OK TO CRY
Nehemiah 1:4 “And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept and mourned certain days, and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven,”

I know some people will want to crucify me for the title of today’s meditation. I guess what came to your mind when you saw it was that, this pastor has decided to speak unbelief today.

Well, you must understand the psychology of tears. Most people especially men have been brought up with the mindset that shedding tears is a sign of weakness and shows you’re weak. So, even when you feel like shedding tears you bottle it so that people won’t see you as vulnerable and weak.

Friend, crying is not a sign of weakness whether you’re a man or woman, it only shows you’re human. Research has shown that crying allows people to release their feelings and hopefully achieve relief or satisfaction faster.

Crying has a physiological effect on the body, such as releasing neurochemical substances that can improve mood. When things happen and you weep, it normally allows you to quickly move past it and move on with your life. It actually aids healing and helps to quickly clear your head and focus on solutions.

You must realize that as humans we are emotional beings and part of letting out emotions is crying. I’ve checked through scriptures and saw where people couldn’t help their emotions:

Genesis 43:30 “Deeply moved on seeing his brother and about to burst into tears, Joseph hurried out into another room and had a good cry.” (MSG)

2Kings 20:5 “”Go back and tell Hezekiah, prince of my people, ‘GOD’s word, Hezekiah! From the God of your ancestor David: I’ve listened to your prayer and I’ve observed your tears. I’m going to heal you. In three days you will walk on your own legs into The Temple of GOD.” (MSG)

Joseph even had to go look for a good place to have a good cry. God told Hezekiah that he has seen his tears.

Here is the gist, what you do after the tears is what matters!

DEMONIC BURDEN-3

DEMONIC BURDEN-3
Nehemiah 1:3 “And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down and the gates thereof are burned with fire.”

…From yesterday…

Beloved, another terminology they used for them is reproach. This talks about shame and disgrace but I’m glad to let you know that even shame has been deal with by Christ for us.

Joshua 5:9 “And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.”

He rolled reproach away from us permanently. In case you’re still ashamed or thinking reproach, you’re simply trying to go take back what has been rolled away! In Joshua 5:9, it says the name of the place is called Gilgal “unto this day”; meaning the effect is still potent even today.

They also told Nehemiah that the wall is broken and the gates are destroyed. In order words, those men are completely exposed and left at the mercy of their enemies.

Friend, nobody keeps something valuable in a city without walls. They were actually telling Nehemiah that there is nothing valuable in Jerusalem again. They were claiming that the city is completely destroyed and uninhabitable. Well, hear God:

Zechariah 2:4 “And said unto him, Run speak to this young man, saying Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein:”

Zechariah 2:5 “For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.”

They might think you’re exposed, without a wall or fence, having no defense in place. I have news for you, God is saying, it is for expansion.

God said in Zechariah 2:4 that rather than think you’re exposed, start seeing the multitude coming! Start seeing the limitations removed!

To now keep your mind at rest, God said, himself has become not an ordinary wall but a wall of fire for you!

Friends, we are not exposed, we are kept and surrounded by the Almighty Himself! Anyone that tries to attack because the city seem exposed will be consumed.

DEMONIC BURDEN-2

DEMONIC BURDEN-2
Nehemiah 1:3 “And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down and the gates thereof are burned with fire.”

…From yesterday…

When God looks at you even in that seemingly low state, He doesn’t see a remnant or survivor, what God sees is a man that is more than a conqueror. Hear Him:

Romans 8:37 “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”

In order words, you are far more than where you are now. It doesn’t matter what is happening around you at the moment, you are more than a conqueror. Christ has won that battle on your behalf, receive that verdict and make it your reality.

You’re not an object of pity, you’re not even a champion! A conqueror/champion is someone who is victorious in a contest, war or battle. But, “a more than conqueror” is one who sits at home, didn’t physically fight in the war but shares the spoil of war among the soldiers after taking what he wants!

Friend, no matter the challenge around you, you cannot be a victim, Christ has gone ahead, fought and won the battle, just receive it and enjoy the spoil of war. You are not a remnant, you’re not trying to survive, you are more than a conqueror. Don’t let anyone use that adjective for you ever again!

The second thing they said about those men was that they were in great affliction. That was the verdict of men about them but let’s hear what God has to say:

Job 36:15 “He delivereth the poor in his affliction, and openeth their ears in oppression.”

1Peter 2:24 “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed”

The truth is that God has delivered us from every affliction. Whatever therefore represents an affliction is simply what you permit.

You must rise up and come against every form of affliction in your life and destiny today in Jesus name!
