THE FEAR OF GOD-1
2Kings 4:1 “Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.”

It was said of this son of prophet even after this death that he feared God. There was no better testimony about a man than the fact that he feared God.

Our fear of God as believers does not stem from stand point of terror but rather from reverence. This is a holy fear that keeps us in check and makes us have the highest regard for the things of the spirit. This helps us to hold God in high esteem and keep away from anything ungodly.

Unfortunately, the fear of God is something that is lacking in this generation and in our world today. People no longer reverence things that are holy and feel they can do things anyhow and get away with it. 

People cheat, commit all manner of atrocities and still claim to know God and fear him. Friend, God is to be feared and honoured. His standards have not been lowered to accommodate our misbehaviours and misdeeds. God has not changed in his approach to holy things and his doctrines.

In our world today, we see people do things that our father’s in the faith dread. Listen to this:

Judges 6:11 “And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.” 

Judges 6:12 “And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.” 

Judges 6:13 “And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.”
