Luke 24:25 “Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:”
Jesus met Cleopas and his colleague, and he used the words “fools and slow of heart.” The words Jesus used here mean people with superficial knowledge. Foolishness means they are ignorant of what God is doing in their region. He was telling them they were slow to learn and comprehend.
But Jesus didn’t stop at that; he went ahead and gave a characteristic of fools. He stated that a fool is also someone who does not believe what the prophets have said.
Friend, by a prophet here, Jesus was referring to biblical prophets who have documented the word of God, but in our contemporary day, that would be our pastors, prophets, and other spiritual authorities over us. There will always be people who are more versed and experienced with the word of God than us, and we owe ourselves a duty to listen to them.
God leads us in this dispensation via His spirit within us but also positions spiritual authorities over us to confirm the words He has spoken to us.
2Chronicles 20:20 “And they rose early in the morning and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.”
God promises to establish us but also tied our prosperity to the influence of a prophet in our lives. Like I said in our previous meditations, we must take the word of God as our final authority; anything other than that makes us fools.
One of the things a prophet will do is help us conform to God’s prophetic word. Friend, don’t be a fool who does not listen to spiritual authorities.
Jesus also describes a fool as one who is slow of heart; these are folks who are sluggish in obeying the word of God. It is often said that delayed obedience is tantamount to disobedience.
A wise man will not just obey; he will do it promptly. What has God been telling you to do? Get about it quickly, Selah!
