Luke 24:13 “And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.”
Luke 24:14 “And they talked together of all these things which had happened.”
Thank God for the gift of great friends, wonderful companies, and companions. These two fellows forged a great partnership, and as they continued on the journey, they began to have a conversation.
The Bible says, “And they talked together of all these things which had happened.”
They were talking, but their conversation was about what had happened. As I was meditating on this story, it occurred to me that they were probably not the only ones on the road to Emmaus that faithful day. There were probably countless others who were on that road too, but their company was the only one that attracted Jesus.
The risen Lord went and joined them as they journeyed. We didn’t have any other accounts of Jesus traveling with anyone other than these individuals. I then asked the question, Why?
Then I got to understand the fact that their gist was about what just happened to Jesus. It was what they were talking about that caught the attention of the Saviour! They were talking about the risen Lamb of God. They were talking about the greatest event that has shaped our world. Their conversation was strictly about Jesus.
Beloved, what type of conversation do you engage in with your acquaintances? That gist you and your friend are so engrossed in—what is it about?
There are conversations that draw the attention of heaven, and you and I must know them. You cannot talk about Jesus without him showing up to be a part of it. Our words matter before the Father, and that is why David said this:
Psalms 50:23 “Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.”
The above scripture points our attention to something very pertinent, which is the fact that there is a way we must organise and order our conversations before God; there is a right and wrong way to speak before the Father.
