2Kings 7:1 “Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.”

A typical born again child of God knows scriptures, but have a major problem with believing and declaring/confessing the word.

To prophesy is something we are all commanded to do. The agenda of God for His children is for us all to know how to prophesy. This does not necessarily mean to “foretell” or forecast but rather to “forth tell.”

To foretell is to forecast or “predict” or tell of something that is about to happen. It is a function of the gift of prophecy, which is a special gift of the Holy Ghost. But we are looking at prophesy from the New Testament order which is to forth tell. This means to take a word which God has spoken, apply it to our current situation and declare it boldly.

In our focal scripture, Elisha wasn’t just prophesying, he was simply re-echoing a word which God had already spoken to him. Hear this, “Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD…”

Let me show you something interesting from a story in scriptures:

Numbers 11:25 “And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.”

Numbers 11:26 “But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.”

Numbers 11:27 “And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.”

At a point in the journey of the children of Israel, God knew the work was becoming overwhelming for Moses, so he decided to multiply his leadership capacity. Guess what He did?
