2Kings 6:5 “But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.”

2Kings 6:6 “And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.”

…From yesterday…

Samson fell and completely lost his axe head on this particular day. If you read the story from here it will look as if that was the day he fell but not at all; it was just the day the falling became manifest.

Let’s look at where he fell:

Judges 14:1 “And Samson went down to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines.”

Judges 14:2 “And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me to wife.”

Judges 14:3 “Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.”

Between Judges 14 and Judges 16, we probably have nothing less than fifteen to twenty years according to the Bible’s chronology of the book of judges.

In other words, if you asked Samson where he fell, he will clearly tell you Judges 14:1. That was where his problem started. God told the children of Israel not to marry from a strange land especially the land of Philistine but when he was ready to get married, that was where he went.

His parents warned him but he was adamant. That was where “his axe head fell” and over the next fifteen to twenty years he made no effort to recover it until the problem became full blown.

Beloved, a man travelling on a journey didn’t just miss his way, if you carefully trace it back, there was a place he missed a turn or made a wrong turn.

To be continued…
