Luke 13:10 “And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.”

Luke 13:11 “And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.”

On this faithful day, Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues and a woman was there who had been sick for eighteen years. She had been in the same condition for that long but was still in church.

It was such a long time but one of the lessons I learnt from this woman is that despite her condition she didn’t leave church. Her condition was a very difficult one. The Bible says she was “bowed together” which means she was doubled over in a crippling and life-impeding manner. It must have been horribly painful to even walk around, or to sit, or to lay down at night and seek rest but yet she was in church!

This woman was definitely one of the most persistent fellows in the entire Bible. I believe she must have a dogged mentality and believe that if her problem was not solved in God’s presence it cannot be solved somewhere else. She didn’t get her issues resolved “just yet” but she remained in God’s presence. Hear Job:

Job 14:14 “If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.”

Job 14:14 “If death takes a man, will he come to life again? All the days of my trouble I would be waiting, till the time came for me to be free.” (BBE)

Job told us categorically that as long as he is alive, he is ready to wait till God shows up and do something about his case. He was uncomfortable but unperturbed. He knows where true deliverance really lies.

King David reiterates same:

Psalms 27:14 “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”

Psalms 27:14 “Stay with GOD! Take heart. Don’t quit. I’ll say it again: Stay with GOD.” (MSG)
