WORD ADDICT-1

WORD ADDICT-1
Luke 2:46 “And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.”

In our focal scripture, Jesus shocked me to the marrow. Each time I read this, I cannot but wonder at his behavior.

Jesus is the Word of God, yet he sat studying and listening to the word!

John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

When the Word is listening to the word, then you and I have no excuse for not studying the word. Jesus was a word addict, even though he is the word personified. It takes a lot of humility to do what he did; it is like asking a university graduate to go and attend kindergarten class for three days.

But, the question I ask myself is this; why did he do it? Does he really need to? Was he not the author of scriptures?

Well, I come to realize he doesn’t really need to, hear this:

Luke 2:47 “And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.”

In other words, he has all the answers to the questions he was asking them. He had superior insight into what they were telling him and was more or less educating them! So why take the pain to do this?

John 13:15 “For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.”

Romans 15:4 “Everything written in the Scriptures was written to teach…” (GNB)

The answer is simple, he did all he did in order to give us an example to follow! He studied to show us we need to study. He stayed in the temple to show us we are first and foremost men and women of the temple. He wanted us to know that it is the spiritual that sustains the physical.

When you are a man of the word, the world will listen to you! All things were made and sustained by the word, and everything must be subject to its creator.
