2Kings 6:5 “But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.”

We were not told what really caused the axe head to fly off the handle into the river; perhaps the son of prophet handling it was careless, lost concentration or was just victim of a mishap.

It could even be a demonic attack for all we know but whatever be the cause, it must be recovered, if not; there will be trouble and shame to the sons of prophet.

They were not on their own assignment but rather on an assignment for the King of kings and God could have stopped this mishap but he didn’t. So, the axe head landed at the bottom of River Jordan and there was practically no way to recover it.

Technology in the eighth century was nothing compared to what we have in the twenty first century so you can imagine their plight. The only way to recover the missing axe head was a miracle! Even in our contemporary days, there are so many things beyond science, which will only take divine intervention to solve.

God in this encounter between the sons of prophet and Elisha wanted to illustrate His providential mastery of life and disclose how He can pull victory from the jaws of defeat.

Know this: God is never constrained from resolving our problems regardless of how perplexing they are. Hear this:

Mark 10:27 “And Jesus looking upon them saith With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.”

Man will forever need the intervention of God because where the limitation of man ends is the beginning of the miraculous. The God of the supernatural is our Father, so it is an aberration for a believer to be stranded.

When the axe head fell into the river, they needed the intervention of God and He came through for them. That same God indwells you and I, when you call upon him, he shows up.

The same God that walked on water is in you! The believer is powerful beyond measure. Impossibility should be alien to us because if it is possible with God, it is possible with us:

Mark 9:23 “Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe all things are possible to him that believeth”
