Mark 5:15 “And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.”

Mark 5:16 “And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.”

Mark 5:17 “And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.”

The folks of Gadara were busy doing their “dirty pig business” without recourse to the state of the mad man. They feel binding him with fetters and banning him to the grave was just okay. Anytime he shows up, they try to send him away.

Mark 5:4 “He had been tied up many times with chains and ropes, but he broke the chains, snapped the ropes. No one was strong enough to tame him.” (MSG)

Hear me: The Gadara folks were busy using physical means to solve a spiritual problem. You don’t bind demons with ropes, you bind them with the authority of the Word and prayers. Not only that; you send them packing from your “coast’ or region by casting them out.

We don’t know how long the mad man of Gadara was possessed but it was obvious the society somehow managed to condone him. They looked for a way to cope with him and continue doing their business. I guess every time he shows up, they just bind him and drive him back to the grave.

Friend, you don’t condone the devil, you don’t find a way to live with him; when he shows up, nip it at the bud and cast him out. Don’t ever wait till he becomes a legion in your life.

When people point your attention to that little lie, that anger, that pride and arrogance, don’t just wave it off; deal decisively with it!

The fury of the “Gadara demon” have no mercy, you’ve got to deal with it before it completely ruin you. The “legion demon” the people of Gadara didn’t cast out destroyed their whole business in one swipe.

The devil does not understand the language of mercy and you must not be ignorant of this truth!
