Luke 1:59 “And it came to pass that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.”

Luke 1:60 “And his mother answered and said Not so; but he shall be called John.”

Luke 1:61 “And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.”

…From yesterday…

We see this being displayed all through scriptures and in our contemporary days. I have seen families where it is almost a taboo for girls to go to higher institutions of learning, in order words, nobody in their lineage bears the name “graduate”. It’s like being called John rather than Zacharias!

I have seen families that always have delays in getting pregnant after marriage. I have also heard of families where it is almost a curse to do any other job, other than becoming a blacksmith.

In the Bible we saw the brothers of Joseph fight and sell him off into slavery because he told them his dream of becoming a king. Everybody in their generation including their progenitor, Abraham have always been shepherds.

One major problem Jesus had with his family and household was the fact that he decided to become a priest and prophet even though they’ve been bearing the name, carpenter.

Mark 6:3 “Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.”

They became offended in him when they got to know that he is no longer the carpenter they were used to.

Men will always resist change. Until someone does something new with outstanding results, men will find it difficult to reckon with him.

Friend, it’s high time you break the norm into pieces and engage the new. Enough of this “Zacharias mindset”. It’s high time you stick with John. That nobody else has done it does not make it impossible!

Go and become all that God has destined you to be, Selah!
