Genesis 28:11 “And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night because the sun was set and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep”
One thing Jacob did here was to lay down and sleep, this is called “rest”. This is something that is very difficult for most people to do. Many a times we struggle to let go and let God.
We keep “hustling” believing that “one day” something drastic will happen and we will have miracles. Well, I want you to know that it doesn’t work that way, as long as you keep thinking your strength will suffice, the enemy will keep cheating you.
There is a place of rest in God. Until Jacob rested, he didn’t dream! He couldn’t have an encounter with the Divine until he decided to rest. The strength of a believer is in his ability to rest in God:
Isaiah 30:15 “For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.”
You cannot enjoy safety and develop spiritual strength until you learn how to rest. Even in the physical, after you have labored and are now tired, all you feel like doing is rest. Once you have a little rest, you feel your strength return and refreshed, same goes in the realm of the spirit as well.
Also, the victory of the believer over his enemies also lies in his ability to rest.
Psalms 110:1 “The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.”
God said he will make our enemies our footstool but we must sit down first! The calling of a Christian is a calling into the rest of God. It is moving away from our labor in order to enter into the finished work of Christ.
The whole concept of grace is tied around the rest factor. Any believer that knows how to rest in God will never be stranded in life.
Rest is simply believing and trusting God totally and absolutely.
