1 Samuel 17:9 “If he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us.”
Our focal scripture today brings to mind something very significant. Goliath showed us a particular type of battle that we are all involved in at one time or the other.
This battle is called representative battle. It is a fight where a single man represent a family, group of people, community, country or nation. In this battle all that is needed is for the representative to either win or lose and the battle is concluded.
Goliath said whoever wins becomes the king, together with his people and the loser also determines the faith of his own people. This is a unique type of fight and it must be understood in context.
As we have discussed earlier, it is a battle between the devil and Jesus. It was a replay of the battle at Calvary. Glory be to God however, because the devil out rightly lost to Jesus. Hear this:
Colossians 2:14 “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;”
Colossians 2:15 “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”
In the same vein, the devil is still harassing people today but the difference is that the Champion, “Jesus”, has floored the devil already. All it takes is for the harassed victim to embrace the personality of Christ and the harassment stops.
A life without Jesus is a life in shambles and it is subject perpetually to satanic harassment. Jesus our champion has done all that is needed to be done. You don’t need to wait “forty days and night” for the champion to show up again. You only need to accept the finished work of Christ and the harassment automatically stops.
Once you accept the Lordship of Jesus, you have the opportunity to remove the head of Goliath! Why not embrace the Lordship of Jesus today and bring a permanent end to every satanic harassment in your life?
Jesus is our representative and his victory has become our victory, hallelujah!
