Luke 17:12 “And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:”
As Jesus entered this particular village, he met ten lepers. It is obvious from the composition of the story that his assignment in that village was to these ten lepers.
The number ten in Bible numerology symbolizes perfection and harmony but not just that, it symbolizes the law and human disobedience. The ultimate disobedience of man culminated in God giving a law which man couldn’t still keep, which brought the penalty of death upon mankind.
Remember, there were ten generations of people who lived before the flood and who were sinners, and the flood wiped them away for their disobedience. Noah was of the tenth generation and the ark was created to lead to the new beginning.
Remember also that it took ten plagues by God to judge the sins of pagan Egypt, in order to release his people, which was also the reaction to human disobedience.
We were all sinners and disobedient. God gave the Ten Commandments but no man could live by them, that was the reason Jesus was sent. Jesus was selected to take the sins of humanity on the tenth day of the month, later known as the day of Atonement, or in other words of taking the responsibility for disobedience and sins of humanity.
This is a Holy Day, which celebrates our victory over the devil. Jesus was the remedy to sin, disobedience and the law. He is called Grace.
John 1:17 “For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.”
The antidote to law and death is life eternal by grace. Jesus is grace and he is not a thing, he is a personality. What stepped into that village on that very day was Grace and he freed the ten lepers.
Grace overran law. Jesus took their sins and shame and gave them life and healing.
Friend, I don’t know what law is keeping you down, it must give way today. When you embrace Jesus, you embrace the Saviour. Have you met him?
Do you know him as Saviour and Lord?
If you have not, today will be a good day!
