1 Kings 17:9 “Arise get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.”

…From yesterday…

God took Elijah to a refinery to work on him first. A refinery is also a place where impurities are removed. One of the basic things that happens during the refining process is separation of the pure iron from impurities.

God found Elijah as a great material to be used for His glory but he needed purification. Impurities must be removed from him that could slow him down in the journey of destiny.

Any gold that doesn’t go through the refinery has very little value. Its real value can only come out after going through the heat of the refinery. I know you’ve found your purpose and vision but yet nothing serious is happening around you; could it be that you have refused to go to Zarephath?

Hear this:

John 13:8 “Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.”

Why did Jesus take the pain to “wash” his disciple’s feet before his crucifixion, resurrection and ascension into heaven? The same reason Elijah was sent to Zarephath!

The word “wash” as used here is the same word “purify”. Jesus was about to leave and he knew that the men he was leaving behind needed a purified feet before they can walk into destiny! He knew they needed a Zarephath experience for them to excel in the next phase of their assignment.

Jesus knew about the anger and spontaneity of Peter, the doubt and unbelief of Thomas, the shallow mindedness of Philip, the cowardice of John and so on. He knows that if those traits are not handled they wouldn’t be able to go far with the assignment.

So, how do we go to Zarephath in the New Testament era? Do we need washing of feet, going through fire etc?

Ephesians 5:26 “That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,”
