THE WATER GATE

THE WATER GATE
Nehemiah 3:26 “Moreover the Nethinims dwelt in Ophel, unto the place over against the water gate toward the east, and the tower that lieth out”

The next gate being mentioned after the fountain gate is the water gate. This particular gate is a very interesting one because the reference that was made to it differs from the ones before it.

All the other gates that were mentioned prior till now were all repaired except this very one. The other gates talks so much about repairing, returning, restoration and realignment but not this one.

So, what does the water gate represent?

Ephesians 5:26 “That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,”

Psalms 119:9 “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.”

The water gate represents the word of God. The only way to understand God, get intimate with Him and know His modus operandi is by His Word. A believer that does not constantly walk through this gate will be powerless, oppressed and defeated, that is why we cannot afford to go a day without it.

A wise man said, as a believer, if you have not taken in the word in a day, you shouldn’t feel guilty; you should rather feel hungry. It is also being said that, lack of appetite is usually the first sign of ill-health. When you lose appetite for the word, you’re already getting sick spiritually.

The intake of the word, is not a Sunday affair for the believer but rather a daily ritual. You ingest the word to strengthen your spirit man, the same way you take physical food to sustain your physical body.

The water gate was not repaired because:

Psalms 119:89 “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.”

The word of God is tried, tested, certified and perfect. It does not need to be repaired or improved upon, we are the ones that needs improvement. The word of God perfects us. Never let a day go by without it!
