THE DUNG GATE
Nehemiah 3:14 “But the dung gate repaired Malchiah the son of Rechab, the ruler of part of Bethhaccerem; he built it, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof.”

The next gate after the valley gate is the dung gate. This is where the city disposed of its garbage. It is a sanitary gate and all the waste materials are removed through this gate to be burnt. Waste disposal is very essential to the health of any city.

Our ability to dispose and get rid of waste in our bodies and lives is critical to our wellbeing. A man that cannot go to the toilet all by himself for instance needs a physician because no matter how healthy he looks physically, he is probably dying within.

The dung gate is strategically located after the valley gate which means that immediate we are done thinking and cross examining our lives at “the valley”, whatever is found that is not of God needs disposal. Hear this:

Romans 1:29 “Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,”

Romans 1:30 “Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,”

Romans 1:31 “Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:”

Paul was not talking to unbelievers here, he was addressing the church at Rome. He was speaking to saints:

Romans 1:7 “To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints…”

It was a way of calling back our consciousness to the reality of the valley and dung gates. It is a check that must be carried out regularly, not just for ourselves but we must understand that we are the only Bibles some unbelievers will ever read.

2 Corinthians 7:1 “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”

Hebrews 12:1 “…let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us…”

Friend, we must individually make conscious effort to rid ourselves of whatever defiles us because it can destroy us.
