THE SHEEP GATE-1

THE SHEEP GATE-1
Nehemiah 3:1 “Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests, and they builded the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even unto the tower of Meah they sanctified it, unto the tower of Hananeel.”

Nehemiah was indeed a very smart man. We can learn a great lesson from his very first move when the rebuilding work commenced. How do I mean?

The whole wall of the city of Jerusalem was in ruins including all the ten gates but the first thing that was repaired was the sheep gate. They had the fish gate, the old gate, the valley gate and so on and so forth, ten gates in total, but the first to be repaired was the sheep gate.

This gate was so named because it was the gate through which the sheep and lambs used for sacrifice in the temple were brought through. I want us to pick three lessons from this gate.

The first thing to note about this gate is that it talks or reminds us about our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and the sacrifices he made for us. There are not many ways to God, there is only one way and that is why Jesus calls himself the way and the door.

John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Jesus is the Ultimate Lamb that was sacrificed to take away the sin of the whole world. The scripture says that:

John 1:29 “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”

Hebrews 9:22 “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.”

He came, shed his blood as ransom from sin, death and the devil. He paid the ultimate price so that we can become free. That is the sheep gate. This is the gate through which every sinner must enter.
