BEYOND THE TEARS-2
BEYOND THE TEARS-2
Nehemiah 1:4 “And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept and mourned certain days, and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven,”
…From yesterday…
Hear me, you can pray without fasting but you cannot fast without praying! We saw instances in the Bible of people praying without necessarily fasting, but not a single instance where someone fasted without staying with God in the place of prayer and the word.
Why do we need to pray when challenges come? I want you to note that prayer is not primarily a medium of asking God for stuff. If your relationship with the Father is on the basis of “give me, give me” then you have a major problem.
Prayer is primarily a medium of cultivating a relationship and intimacy with God. It is like becoming well acquainted with a friend. If you have a friend that doesn’t call you or relate with you except when they’re in trouble, what is usually your disposition towards them?
Your basis of entering into a relationship with people shouldn’t be because you want to go and get something or milk them, it should primarily be because of fellowship.
The same thing goes with prayer. It enables you to primarily develop intimacy with the Father. Knowing Him well, loving Him, understanding His ways and above all recognizing His voice.
The problem is this; when you only talk to God when in trouble, even if He speaks and proffers solution you wouldn’t know!
So, Nehemiah cried to let out the emotions, (and I’m not saying you must cry), he fasted to subdue the flesh and its desires then he did the most important thing; he prayed.
Hear me, don’t go to the place of prayers to go complain and tell God what He already knows. He’s not blind nor deaf, He knows your pains and challenges, so go to Him to listen for answers and solutions!
Every smart and spiritually intelligent believer knows that in prayers, what God tells you is more important than what you tell Him! Therefore, go to the place of prayers and listen to HIM, Selah!
