CONSULTATIONS-1
1Samuel 11:3 “And the elders of Jabesh said unto him, Give us seven days’ respite that we may send messengers unto all the coasts of Israel: and then, if there be no man to save us, we will come out to thee.”

The elders of Jabesh didn’t start out right in their response to the threat of Nahash but we can still learnt one or two things in their response. The first thing they were supposed to do was to consult God.

The foundation of doing anything right is a communication with the Divine. When God bares His voice on a matter it is solved. The first thing you need therefore, when confronted with an overwhelming challenge is the voice of God.

Consulting God gives you His perspective on the matter. God’s voice gives direction and helps us to have a coordinated response for appropriate action. These elders were confused so they began sending out for help from anywhere they could get it.

They were looking for “any man” that can save them. They were ready to sign another treaty with any other man who can give them a better deal than what Nahash was demanding.

It’s so sad to know that these men were already given a king by God but because they didn’t like his choice, they never went to discuss with him. They were busy sending out SOS (Save Our Soul) signals to any man that can rescue them.

Friend, may you not look for help where there is none. May you not run from frying pan to fire in Jesus name. I asked myself, “What of if they met someone who offers to help them destroy Nahash but rather than give their right eyes ask them for fifty percent of their farm harvest?”

I believe without thinking twice they would have jumped at that option and ended up being slaves to such a fellow rather than remaining free men.

Beloved, I have news for you; it is only the help of God that is valid, authentic and free. When divinity comes to your aid no man will be able to take the glory.
