1Samuel 11:3 “And the elders of Jabesh said unto him, Give us seven days’ respite that we may send messengers unto all the coasts of Israel: and then, if there be no man to save us, we will come out to thee.”
These so called elders of Israel failed woefully. They were supposed to be leaders who will go to war and call upon God on behalf of the people but rather, they were busy running helter skelter seeking for help.
They carried the title of “elder” but were actually babies in their thoughts and actions. They were in the category of elders that the Bible spoke about here:
Hebrews 5:12 “For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.”
I still find it difficult to comprehend elders who will not fast, pray and seek the face of God in challenging times. The reason they acted the way they did was because there was no godly stuff in them. They had since lost the place of fellowship.
Situations and challenges don’t make a man but rather reveals what he is made of. The threat of Nahash exposed the inadequacies of these men.
Friend, people know you as a believer and always see you post scriptures on your social media platforms and watch you go to church, to them you’re an “elder” but when difficult situations of life show up, what will your response be?
It’s high time you take your spiritual walk seriously. Build in enough stuff to confront situations and come out tops. On the battle field in 1Samuel 17, “the elders” including David’s elder brothers were in battle against the Philistines.
When Goliath showed up however, all of them ran away except David. This young man proved to us that he was really “the elder” because of the relationship he has built with God in the secret place.
Friend, get on your knees, go and develop your spirit man. Grow up as a believer. Enough of knowing “about” God, know HIM!
