NAHASH-1
1 Samuel 11:1 “Then Nahash the Ammonite came up and encamped against Jabeshgilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.”

In the next couple of meditations, we are going to be studying a very interested story of how Saul eventually became acceptable as king. After he was ordained and anointed most people in Israel didn’t like his choice and will not cooperate with him.

1 Samuel 10:24 “And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the LORD hath chosen that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted and said God save the king.”

1 Samuel 10:27 “But the children of Belial said How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought him no presents. But he held his peace”

Some people even hated him with passion. They refused to recognize his authority and didn’t give him gifts, which was customary in their days. Such was the plight of Saul.

However, you will not blame some of those folks because even Saul himself ran away on the day of his ordination!

1 Samuel 10:21 “When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken and Saul the son of Kish was taken and when they sought him, he could not be found”

1 Samuel 10:22 “Therefore they enquired of the LORD further, if the man should yet come thither. And the LORD answered Behold, he hath hid himself among the stuff.”

It took God releasing the gift of word of knowledge upon Samuel to fetch Saul out before he could be ordained. The young man was naïve, untested and lacked confidence.

Friend, perhaps you have been anointed and ordained for a particular task and assignment but you’re feeling jittery and inadequate, you’re not alone, it has happened to several people but they got past their fears and became great.

How did Saul overcome his initial fears? He became acceptable when he conquered Nahash! Who is Nahash?
