Joshua 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
There are several books in the world that talks about success. Many of them contain human opinions that sounds very logical and appealing to the senses. I’m not trying to fault them but then, let’s look at what God himself said about having not just success but a good one.
God highlighted these principles here not just for Joshua but for us as well.
The very first strategy He gave is the strategy of speech. He said, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth…”
God didn’t say it shall not depart out of your heart but your mouth. The mouth of a man determines his destiny. A closed mouth is a closed destiny. When you keep quiet about matters of destiny, your life shuts-down.
Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
Proverbs 18:21 “What you say can preserve life or destroy it; so you must accept the consequences of your words.” (GNB)
Our mouth must be used as an instrument of success and blessings, not a tool of destruction. We must carefully watch what comes out of it.
God also shows here that success is directly tied to what a man is saying, not what he has said! It implies that the more you keep talking and declaring success, the more it locates you, it is not a one-off thing. Your confession must be continuous and intent.
Jesus also said, a man “…shall have whatsoever he saith” (Mark 11:23). We live in a very negative world, where demonic terms have become part of our daily syntax. Some of those slangs are actually what has been limiting many people.
