GATEKEEPER-1

GATEKEEPER-1
Esther 2:19 “And when the virgins were gathered together the second time, then Mordecai sat in the king’s gate.”

The more I study the Book of Esther, the more I learnt about fathering and mentoring. Esther was probably the wisest woman in her generation. She was so fortunate to have Mordecai in her life.

I saw something very interesting in our focal scripture and I knew that no other maiden could have become the queen except Esther. Let’s take a critical look at it:

Esther 2:19 “And when the virgins were gathered together the second time, then MORDECAI SAT IN THE KING’S GATE.”

Mordecai didn’t just physically mentor Esther, he stood as a spiritual cover as well. While all the other virgins and their so called mentors were busy cheering away and enjoying the funfair at the palace during the beauty pageant, Mordecai sat in the king’s gate.

In ancient times, the gate is the place of power, decisions and authority. The elders always meet at the gates and whatever decision is reached at the gate is binding upon everyone in the city. He who controls the gate, controls the city.

The gate however is not just physical, it has spiritual connotation as well. There are spiritual gates that must be opened for you. There are spiritual gatekeepers and portals that must grant access to that which you need, no wonder Jesus said:

John10:3 “The gatekeeper opens the gate for him…” (NIV)

The gate is very significant in spiritual warfare and you need somebody to man it. If you don’t have authority at the gate, you will be voiceless in the city.

Friend, your father is a gatekeeper. When you go to “battle” at the “beauty pageants” of life, you need a voice that will raise an altar of victory for you. Don’t run your life on just skills, beauty, intelligence, connections and wisdom, you need a spiritual angle to all that you do and wise fathers know this.

If your spiritual gate is not manned, victory cannot be guaranteed.

I love making reference to what Daniel did for his friends:
