Judges 11:4 “And it came to pass in process of time, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel.”
Judges 11:5 “And it was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob:”
One key thing I noticed in the life of Jephthah was training. He simply converted his process of time to a training period. I want to believe that since the day he arrived at Tob, he knew that one day his brethren will come back asking for his help and he got himself ready for that day.
I want you to know that fortune always smiles on the prepared. Opportunities for greatness will always show up for each of us but our readiness determines if it will favour us or not.
I want you to know that your wilderness experience or time in “Tob” is not a coincidence, it is designed to get you ready and sufficiently prepared for greatness. If Jephthah had not prepared; when the opportunity to defend his people and nation showed up he wouldn’t have had the resources to defend them. His preparation became his bargaining card.
Preparation and training are critical to whatever you want to become in life. Hear this:
2Chronicles 27:6 “So Jotham became mighty because he prepared his ways before the LORD his God.”
We can see from here that becoming great or mighty is not the problem, the main challenge is preparing the way. Greatness is always available to the prepared.
The main problem of many people however is that most times when training or preparation for greatness starts, they fail to recognize it. Training for life is not like the regular examination in a school system, this one shows up most times unannounced.
The day the lion and the bear showed up against David in the bush while tending his father’s sheep, was a training period for him. He could have chosen to run away but he waited, risked his life but passed the examination in flying colours.
