Judges 16:6 “And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee.”

Judges 16:7 “And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried then shall I be weak and be as another man.”

Anytime I study this portion of scripture, I always feel like weeping for Samson. I saw by the help of the Holy Spirit some reasons why he fell badly to the Delilah spirit.

The first reason I saw is what I call backsliding. This powerful man fell into a backslidden state and he lost his head completely. When a believer enters a backslidden state, he losses spiritual sensitivity. I keep wondering if Samson listened to Delilah at all.

This woman said, “…Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee.”

In order words, tell me the secret of your strength so that I can destroy you and Brother Samson just seems to laugh it off. This woman stated her mission and vision statement clearly without mincing words but Samson seems to care less.

I know we can easily take a judgmental seat against Samson but come to think of it, many believers do exactly the same thing. You know the repercussion of certain actions you’re about to take yet you take it all the same.

I was wondering recently what could be going on in the mind of a guy that was smoking, when on the pack of the cigarette was boldly written, “Smokers are liable to die young”. But, I realize that many people live their lives that way.

Most believers know all the rules, what to do and what not to do yet they do things that are detrimental to their spiritual, physical, moral and intellectual lives.

Samson heard the words clearly but decided to ignore it. As a believer you know you’re not supposed to lie, backbite, fight, kill, steal, bear false witness, go late to work, be lazy and so on but you do it all the same.

To be continued…
