IN LOVE WITH DELILAH-1
Judges 16:4 “And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.”

In today’s meditation, I want us to take a look at the object of Samson’s affection; the woman called Delilah. After taking a look at the word Delilah I became scared; I cannot but wonder how such a man could walk with his two eyes open into such a deadly trap.

The name Delilah means the following: to slacken or be weak; to be oppressed, to bring low, dry up, be emptied, to dangle, fail, be impoverished and to be made thin, amongst others.

Beloved, Samson fell in-love with death! Delilah was everything that brings a believer down. This was not just a “woman”, she was a weapon of mass destruction in the hands of the enemy against a believer. This is a spirit from hell that can easily dissuade and deceive the very elect.

The first thing this “Delilah spirit” does is to slacken or weaken a man. To become slack or weak means to reduce the intensity or reduce the amount of work or effort being put into something. It is like a man driving at 100Kmph who takes his leg off the throttle until he gradually stops the car.

It means not working at full capacity or not working as well as usual or desirable. I once heard from the report of a medical research that one of the early signs of someone fallen sick is reduction in food intake. If you discover you suddenly keep losing interest in eating or a drastic reduction in the way you eat, you might be getting sick.

Delilah didn’t just attack Samson, she first of all weaken him. She made him become slack and then struck with a deadly blow.

When you discover a drastic reduction in the spiritual activities that normally excite you, there might be a Delilah lurking somewhere in the dark around your destiny. This spirit is very subtle but deadly.

It is equally an oppressive spirit that takes hold of the thinking faculty of a man.
