RIGHT WATER, RIGHT FOOD-1
2Samuel 23:15 “And David longed and said Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!”

David was a very smart man and king. He fought sixty six battles and lost none, that was no mean feat. I like taking time to study his words carefully because the more I do that, the more I grab his principles and what made him thick.

David had a desire or longing to drink water but not from just any well but from the well by the gate of Bethlehem! That was not the only well available but he was very specific about this one.

Three key words from his desire are water or drink, Bethlehem and gate, this young warrior was indeed very smart! Water or drink in the Bible simply refers to divine operations as well as the word of God.

Ephesians 5:26 “That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,”

John 7:38 “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”

When David craved for water, he was going after the word! He was desiring water of the right kind.

The next word to consider is the water source, Bethlehem. The town of Bethlehem is very significant in Israel. It is the place of crowning kings and he was eventually crowned there.

The word Bethlehem means the “house of bread”. It was the birthplace of David and that of Jesus. David knew what he was longing after. He wasn’t just guessing he was desiring and planning to boost his spiritual capacity. He knew if he can drink from there, he will be infusing his inner man with strength.

I need to also tell you that a well by the gate is very significant as well. In Old Testament days, the gate represents the place of decision. It is where all the matters of a Kingdom are determined. If you can win at the gate, you will win in the city automatically.

Genesis 22:17 “That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which [is] upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess THE GATE of his enemies;”
