THE POWER OF DESIRE
2Samuel 23:15 “And David longed and said Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!”

The starting point of every success in life and destiny is a compelling desire. Our focal scripture calls it a “longing”.

A longing is a yearning or a persistent and strong desire, usually for somebody or something unattainable or not within immediate reach. It is a compelling force that propels a man to attempt and do the impossible.

Our focal scripture told us about David and his longing for a drink from the well of Bethlehem and specifically the well by the gate. David was crystal clear about what he wanted.

Friend, are you clear about what you want in life? Is your desire specific enough? Can your desire motivate you and others to action? How committed are you to what you want?

Many people want things in life but are not specific enough. David wasn’t confused about his longing, he knew the details. The desire of a man is what sets him up for success in life and destiny. Hear this:

Proverbs 10:24 “The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted”

Mark 11:24 “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire when ye pray believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”

It is very clear from the above scriptures that our desires are the raw materials that move heaven into action. What God is looking for in our prayers are the desires that drove us to our knees.

God is seriously interested in our desire and would stop at nothing to bring it to pass, but two things are very critical when we come to the place of prayer. One, we must have a compelling desire and secondly that desire must be in line with the will of God.

God is interested in our desires, but the desire must be that of a righteous man. He will not honour a wicked desire, so beloved, how pure are your desires? Are they demonic, selfish or divine?
