2Samuel 23:11 “And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where was a piece of ground full of lentiles: and the people fled from the Philistines.”

2Samuel 23:12 “But he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: and the LORD wrought a great victory.”

…From yesterday…

Genesis 25:34 “Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink and rose up and went his way thus Esau despised his birthright.”

Jacob bought the birthright of Esau with lentiles! In order words, lentiles can be equated to the generations yet unborn. It carries an infinite value. It is a seed for an unquantifiable future.

Thousands of years after that exchange of lentiles between Jacob and Esau, we are still hearing about Israel which of course is Jacob but no word about Esau. If you probably have an opportunity to discuss with Esau today, he’ll just have one advice for you; “Lentiles are powerful, be careful!”

Friend, that your small business, family, career, child and so on can grow into a giant oak tree if you’ll only rise and defend it today. You cannot afford to lose what God has given you because therein lies your future.

I also want you to know the Philistines that will come after your full field of lentiles. They include: Ignorance, prayerlessness, adultery, unforgiveness, rudeness, stubbornness, divorce, laziness, greed, anger, your achievements and so on.

Those are some of the confirmed Philistines that will show up to contest your field with you. You must not allow them harvest where they did not sow.

These Philistines didn’t show up until the lentile was ready for harvest. You must be sensitive to seasons. Running away from the enemy could be running away from a colourful future. Don’t quit your job because of an intimidating boss, he could be a “Philistine” in disguise.

Place the right value on your lentiles, Shammah knew and understood the mystery of lentiles and he became mighty. Always rise in defense of your harvest no matter how small.
