Mark 10:47 “And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.”
Bartimaeus could not see but his hearing was intact. He heard the good news about Jesus and promptly swung into action. What he heard changed the entire course of his life.
The problem of many people is that; they’ve not been hearing correctly. Several men have heard things that put fear into them rather than faith. Many even heard some terrible things that have kept them stagnant in life and destiny.
The word “heard” as used here means to give audience and attention to. It also mean to understand! I presume that Bartimaeus have been hearing about Jesus for quite some time and has done some research. I came to this conclusion after reading his statements carefully.
He said; “…Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me”. Most people in their days simply called “Jesus” when addressing him but Bartimaeus didn’t stop there, he added “Son of David”. That was something very strange.
The term “Son of David” is Jesus’ covenant name and you don’t invoke that without him stopping to attend to you. I’m sure Bartimaeus went and enquired from priests and from people who could tell him more about Jesus. When he called Jesus that name he attracted his attention.
Friend, what have you been hearing? What are men telling you about Jesus and your destiny helpers?
I’ve heard people say the era of miracle has gone and God doesn’t heal again. Some people have been fed with so much wrong information that it has become practically impossible for them to be helped.
What we hear infuses either of two things into us; faith or fear. Hear this:
Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
The Bible says what you hear is what births faith in you. Not hearing frivolous things but hearing and listening to the word of God. The only thing that gives you the faith of God and faith in God is His word.
