THE FIRST
THE FIRST
Mark 16:9 “Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.”
In our focal scripture, we saw that after Jesus arose the first person he appeared to was Mary Magdalene. This woman was not among his twelve disciples but yet had the honour of seeing the risen Christ first.
If we check his closeness to his disciples, the first person to probably see him should have been John or Peter, yet it was this Mary that had that singular honour.
To make matters worse, this woman was once demon possessed with all manner of issues and complications. Most times when reference is made to her, they always attach that “stigma” to qualify her but in spite of all that she saw Jesus first. Nobody can take that away from her!
The question then is this, why was she the first person to see him?
Mark 16:1 “And when the sabbath was past Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.”
When you look at the order of the people that first made their way to the tomb to anoint his body, she was number one on the list. That order also shows indirectly that she was probably the initiator of the idea of going to anoint the body. This woman made the first move.
Now, here is the gist: When you seek God early and make Him first, He makes you a priority! Hear this:
Proverbs 8:17 “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.”
Mary Magdalene went after him early and He responded accordingly. God won’t cheat any man. Your title not withstanding, when you go hard after him, he makes you His priority.
This woman was forgiven much, and she gave much back in return and Christ did her this honour. She was last but she became first!
When you make what matter to God your matter, he’ll make what matter to you His matter!
