THE INSTRUCTIONS OF GOD-1

THE INSTRUCTIONS OF GOD-1
Genesis 26:2 “And the LORD appeared unto him, and said Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:”

Genesis 26:3 “Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;”

I want us to take a critical look at the instructions that God gave to Isaac. The first instruction God gave to him was not to go down to Egypt.

Egypt represent trouble and the world. Isaac must have learnt from history that when famine came during the days of Abraham his father, the old man ran to Egypt. Truly, Abraham returned from Egypt with many “precious gifts” and even became rich but among those gifts was a young girl called Hagar.

Hagar looked harmless initially but eventually grew up and led to the major downside in Abraham’s history. She got pregnant for Abraham and gave birth to Ishmael whose generation grew up to become the major enemies of the children of Israel.

Jacob, Joseph, Solomon and so on, went to Egypt in one way or the other for help and marriage and they ended up with regrets. Egypt is a word meaning besieged or plagued. God knew that there is no help anywhere but in him and he was ready to teach Isaac that lesson. God eventually warned us:

Deuteronomy 17:16 “But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.”

God delivered us from the world and Egypt; He warned us not to go back that way for help. He is our sufficiency! All that we need is in Him.

God knows how to arrange the right people, right breaks, right opportunities and right conditions to help us.

To be continued…
