Ruth 1:19 “So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said Is this Naomi?”

Ruth 1:19 “They went on until they came to Bethlehem. When they arrived, the whole town became excited, and the women there exclaimed, “Is this really Naomi?””(GNB)

Naomi and Ruth left Moab and made the long, hard and tedious journey back to Bethlehem-Judah. They had no hope for the future. Naomi just decided to take the risk to return.

She was now widowed and didn’t know what life or the future holds but she made the journey back anyway. Historians told us that the trip from Moab to Bethlehem was uphill, which makes it very difficult but they made it back against all odds. I can imagine Ruth helping the old woman climb the hill and the devil probably whispering to her to abandon the trip and head back to Moab.

Naomi and her folks left the Promised Land, the Place of God for an accursed place and all hope seems lost but she summoned up courage and returned.

To their greatest surprise they whole city of Bethlehem went agog when they got back. It was as if the king had travelled for a long time and has now returned. The excitement was thick in the air and she was received with pomp and pageantry.

Friend, return to Bethlehem and to the Creator of the ends of the earth, He has a surprise party organized for you. Their story was like that of the prodigal son.

Luke 15:20 “And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.”

Luke 15:22 “But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:”
