Ruth 1:2 “And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehemjudah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.”

The more I keep meditating on the life of Elimelech, the more I kept seeing errors that eventually led to his early demise. This man started his life well with Naomi, but along the line he went off the radar.

How do I mean?

The name Elimelech as we have seen means; a powerful, God appointed king and ruler. He was a wonderful man who loved God and followed Him. When he wanted to get married he went and married a woman called Naomi.

The name Naomi means pleasant, delight, suitableness amongst others. In order words he started keeping company with a suitable and pleasant wife. As long as you follow God, He’ll make your life delightsome.

We really don’t know what happened but along the line I believe Elimelech started backsliding! I strongly believe his problem started when he began to give birth. He gave birth to two sons, Mahlon and Chilion.

The name Mahlon means to become weak, sick, afflicted; to grieve, make sick, become wounded and to be in pain. The name of the second son is Chilion which means destruction, consumption, failing, destroy and consume away.

I kept wondering how a man of God that was married to “Pleasant” got to this low point. He didn’t start out like that but somewhere along the line he started “birthing” trouble into his own life.

Friend, be careful what you’re birthing. Don’t let the devil sneak into your destiny undetected. Elimelech, a powerful man of God started getting afflicted, sick, wounded and destroyed and he never took notice. His situation degenerated gradually and he ended up in Moab, a cursed place.

Watch what you’re birthing, are you still on God’s side or has the enemy crept into your affairs silently and unnoticed?

To be continued…

Love you BiG
