1Samuel 17:58 “And Saul said to him, Whose son art thou, thou young man? And David answered I am the son of thy servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.”

…From yesterday…

Hear this:

John 1:46 “And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see”

At the beginning of Jesus’ ministry, nobody gave him a chance. As a matter of fact sons of men already had a conclusion about the town of Nazareth; it was concluded that nothing good can come out of it.

All that however changed over the course of time:

Matthew 21:11 “And the multitude said This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.”

Everybody eventually knew about Jesus and where he came from. Even today everything in heaven, on earth and underneath the earth bows at the mention his name. When you kill your lion and giant your name becomes great. Look at this mentee of David:

2Samuel 23:20 “And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man, of Kabzeel, who had done many acts, he slew two lionlike men of Moab: he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow:”

2Samuel 23:21 “And he slew an Egyptian, a goodly man: and the Egyptian had a spear in his hand; but he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and slew him with his own spear.”

2Samuel 23:22 “These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among three mighty men.”

Benaiah understood this principle so well. Nobody knew him when he started out in life just like his mentor but rather than sit idle, he went out and repeated the feat of David and his name became great as well.

This principle cannot fail: Kill your giant, make a name!

When asked his father’s name, David said Jesse. The name Jesse means “to stand out”, beloved, when you kill your giant you will stand out!
