1Samuel 17:49 “And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.”
Practical assignments comes in different forms. In the case of David it was the sheep of his father; for Joshua it was serving Moses, for Elisha it was pouring water on Elijah’s hands; for Joseph, it was management of Portiphar’s house.
Even Jesus had to visit the temple as a twelve year old to gain mastery and for the disciples it was serving Jesus. You must locate these practical matters and take them serious.
In your own case, it could be learning under a mentor, serving a leader, ushering in church, singing in the choir, reading a book or even paying attention in class as a student.
God always give each of us the opportunity for training to become an expert but many are not sensitive to it. Some of us even hate the training. You may not know it but God is surely watching our attitude towards training.
Goliath harassed them for forty days and the number forty in Bible numerology is a number of testing, waiting and preparation. It is also the number of new beginnings. We can see these in Jesus fasting for forty days, Israel’s journey in the wilderness, Noah’s forty days flood, Moses starting his assignment at forty and so on.
I believe strongly that during the forty days of the harassment of Israel by Goliath; David was training and getting ready by perfecting his sling, stone and aiming technique. His appearance at the warfront was not a coincidence, it was a divine orchestration of God.
When the “Expert” was ready, God arranged for him to appear on the stage. Beloved, learn what you need to learn and go remove the head of your Goliath!
No matter where you find yourself, pick up the vital lessons, it will come in handy when Goliath show up and believe me, he someday will!
