1Samuel 17:49 “And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.”

1Samuel 17:50 “So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.”

…From yesterday…

A combination of knowledge and training is what I call Mastery. By mastery, I mean having expert knowledge or outstanding ability; having complete and total control over something or situations.

It doesn’t matter how anointed you’re, you must strive to gain mastery and become an expert.

1Corinthians 9:25 “And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.”

Note that you can’t gain mastery until you undergo training. You must strive for it and be temperate. To strive means it will require an effort on your part.

To be temperate on the other hand means restraint in behavior or attitude. To gain mastery you must be patient, show a great deal of self-discipline and control.

Even though the Bible didn’t tell us expressly, I want to believe that David didn’t just pull off that stunt the day he confronted Goliath, he must have practiced slinging a stone on the run and aiming it at a target several times while tending his father’s sheep. He must have done it times without number.

Beloved, don’t ever appear at the place of glory unprepared; you must recognize the practical assignments God has put in your hands now to prepare you for your future roles in life and destiny.

In the case of David it was the sheep of his father; for Elisha it was pouring water on Elijah’s hands; for Joseph, it was management of Portiphar’s house. For the disciples it was serving Jesus. Locate these practical matters and take them serious.
