THE LORD OF HOSTS-1
1Samuel 17:45 “Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied”

Who is God to you? What is the meaning of the LORD of hosts?

Until you settle these questions and become certain of your answer, you can never win the critical battles of life. A man of God said; “Believers go to church every Sunday to read Our Lord’s prayer and call God Father but end up living the rest of the week like orphans”.

David knew what King Saul and his armies didn’t know. He knew God as the LORD of hosts! The LORD of hosts is a title of God which every believer must know.

In our focal scripture, David started talking to Goliath by making mockery him. It is his turn to taunt the enemy. He said “…Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield”; David was literally telling Goliath that he came to fight him with the weapons he dropped!

David was just laughing because everything Goliath was coming to fight him with were the stuff Saul gave him which didn’t allow him to move and he had to put off. On seeing Goliath, he knew the giant had already lost the battle.

In the physical Goliath looked well “dressed” and kitted but in the realm of the spirit David knew the guy cannot move! Those were weapons he (David) had to drop in order to be able to move freely and fight.

David fought the lion and the bear without those weapons and he knew it was time to introduce his Chief Weapon, “The LORD of hosts”. David knew God so well; he knows the meaning of the LORD of hosts.

The LORD of hosts is a very interesting title of God, one that makes Him unique and different from every other god on earth.
