THE SIN OF OVERCONFIDENCE-2
1Samuel 17:43 “And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.”

1Samuel 17:44 “And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.”

Overconfidence can completely blindfold a man into making assumptions that can lead to disaster or doom.

You must know that your enemy didn’t just jump into the battlefield, he must have done a little research on you. Goliath didn’t take cognizance of this fact and he lost to a supposed weaker opponent.

Paul warned us thus:

1Corithians 10:12 “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall”

I’ve seen believers follow friends to parties saying they’re strong and ended up coming back home heavily drunk! Some even tell you they’ll preach and convert every unbeliever at the party but ended up “converted” instead.

You see believers telling you they can marry anybody they wish because they know they can easily convert them. They got married truly but ends up becoming frustrated and worse-off than the unbeliever they plan to convert.

Don’t let the enemy use this strategy against you. Take heed, don’t let overconfidence deceive you that you’re standing. Take a look at this encounter:

Joshua 7:3 “And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and make not all the people to labour thither; for they are but few.”

Joshua 7:4 “So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai.”

Israel just finished defeating the “almighty” Jericho and next came the “little” Ai. Rather than face Ai the same way they faced Jericho, they became overconfident. If only they knew the danger of overconfidence, they would’ve been more careful.

Friend, thread with caution, overconfidence can make “little” David defeat “mighty” Goliath!
