1Samuel 17:42 “And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.”

…From yesterday…

1Samuel 16:10 “Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these.”

When Samuel came to the house to anoint a king, all the seven brothers of David who were soldiers were all at home! The only one out in the sun was David.

Friend, Goliath saw David as “ruddy”, not knowing that ruddiness is part of the requirements to cut off his head. Keep at what you do and do it thoroughly. Men may call you a workaholic but never give up. You need the ruggedness that only the heat of the sun produces.

The third adjective used for David was that he was of “a fair countenance”; that is he was handsome. What makes us as Christians handsome or beautiful is not physical beauty. It is internal beauty which radiates to the outside and it is called the righteousness of God.

Psalms 90:17 “And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.”

The enemy always get intimidated by the beauty we radiate because it exposes their dirtiness, wickedness and spiritual ugliness. The beauty of God upon a man is holiness and righteousness. That is why people hate you when you’re upright!

Immediately David appeared, Goliath saw his own emptiness and filth. Beloved, don’t join them by becoming dirty. Don’t soil your hands at your workplace.

Maintain the beauty and integrity of Jesus. They might hate you and castigate you but at the end, they will bow at your feet, ask Joseph’s brothers. It is the beauty of the Lord that makes a man look beautiful and attractive.

Why do Joseph’s brothers hate him so much?
