PREPARE TO BE SCORNED-2
1Samuel 17:42 “And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.”
The enemy will tell you why you’re not qualified for what you want. The devil will tell you that God cannot give you because you’re a sinner but he won’t tell you about redemption in Christ!
He’ll say you’re not righteous enough. It is reserved for some very special people and so on.
He’ll tell you your background has disqualified you. He’ll tell you nobody has ever done it in your lineage. He’ll let you know that you’re not educated enough. Not tall enough, not short enough, too fat, too thin, not brilliant and so on.
My spiritual father told the tale of a young lady that was brought to him who has attempted suicide. When asked why she wanted killing herself, she said it is because her nose is too big! Can you imagine that?
If you look critically at the attack of Goliath on David as stated in our focal scripture you’ll be shocked. This was battle and what Goliath was using to vilify David were very stupid things he knew nothing about.
He said David was “…a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.”
To be a youth means David was inexperienced. He was saying David is too inexperienced to face him. Remember Saul told him the same thing:
1Samuel 17:33 “And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.”
Beloved, before you can be a success in critical battles of life you need some level of youthfulness. Strength is something synonymous only to the youth. No wonder the bible says:
Proverbs 20:29 “We admire the strength of youth and respect the gray hair of age.” (GNB)
Youth have strength and it takes strength to win critical battles of life. So when they called David a youth, he smiled because he knew they were simply telling him he is strong!
