PROPER DRESSING FOR WAR: HELMET-3
1Samuel 17:38 “And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.”
1Samuel 17:39 “And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.”
When the second Saul showed up inform of Apostle Paul, he said something totally different about the covering for the head.
Ephesians 6:17 “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”
Paul said, we should not cover our head with the helmet of brass but rather with the helmet of salvation. What does this connote?
Paul was saying, salvation is what must cover our head, that is repentance. The word repentance was a word Jesus kept using right from the inception of his ministry.
Matthew 3:2 “And saying Repent ye for the kingdom of heaven is at hand”
Matthew 4:17 “From that time Jesus began to preach and to say Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand”
Mark 1:15 “And saying The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand repent ye and believe the gospel.”
Luke 13:3 “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent ye shall all likewise perish”
The crux of Jesus’ message was repentance. To repent or repentance simply means to change our thinking pattern to that of the gospel. What Jesus came to attack first and foremost is our thought life. He knows that if our thoughts are correct and in-line with that of God, defeat becomes a thing of the past.
The children of Israel all kept running away from Goliath because they have a defeatist orientation. There thought was completely antithesis to the gospel.
Friend, if you will survive the critical battles of life, you must repent and cover your head with the helmet of salvation!
