DON’T LISTEN TO SAUL-1
1Samuel 17:33 “And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.”

There is an idiom which says, “You must first check out the quality of the clothe on the person that has promised to buy you the best fabric in town”.

Friend, it is not everybody that can advise you and you cannot take every counsel. You must be careful who you’re listening to and what you’re hearing. Saul was telling David not to attempt something he (Saul) has never tried.

Assuming he tried and failed, it would be another story but to tell somebody else he cannot do what you’ve never attempted, is eccentricity of a magnanimous proportion!

Saul, was king and has been well trained in the art of war. He has fought battles before and was equally tall. He might not have the height of Goliath but was definitely the tallest man in Israel. He had equally been a man of war from his youth just like Goliath.

If any man was qualified enough to fight Goliath it was Saul. He, has never attempted to fight Goliath yet here he was discouraging David. You must be able to identify a Saul from a long way off.

I’ve come to discover that the whole battle between David and Goliath happened to be battle of words. David didn’t just confront Goliath, he had to deal with Eliab and Saul as well. In our previous devotions, we analyzed the words of Eliab but then what about Saul?

In our focal scripture for today, David got to the presence of Saul only to be met with another battle. In the critical battles of life, you must know and understand who is talking to you per time.

As earlier discussed, Eliab will come with abuses, Goliath will come with curses but Saul will attack you with discouragement. Once you can clearly identify them, you’ll be able to defeat them.
