THE POWER OF FEW-3

1 Samuel 17:28 “And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? And with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.”

…From yesterday…

Eliab lacked an understanding of the power of few. He despised the days of small beginnings! He violated a major law of life.

Hear this:

1Samuel 16:7 “But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”

I have a strong believe that one of the reasons God refused Eliab was the mindset he had about his father’s business. He called the business small and few but his brother David was busy staking his life for the few sheep.

David fought a lion (the king of the jungle) and probably the strongest in the cat family just to protect the “few” sheep. Not only that, he fought a bear because of the same “few” sheep that Eliab despised.

David knew the power of small. He was ready to do whatever it takes for the “few” sheep to multiply. He understood the following scripture:

Zechariah 4:10 “For who hath despised the day of small things?”

Zechariah 4:10 “For who has had a poor opinion of the day of small things?” (BBE)

Zechariah 4:10 “They are disappointed because so little progress is being made.” (GNB)

David knew that small is powerful. The seed has always been God’s starting point for everything. Eliab despised the day of small things, David embraced it.

Friend, I know you’re angry with Eliab but I’ve come to discover that the “Eliab trait” is in many of us! I’ve seen many people behave like Eliab in different forms.

To be continued…
