THE POWER OF FEW-1
THE POWER OF FEW-1
1 Samuel 17:28 “And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.”
You can easily know how far a man will go in life by the things he values. If you listen carefully to the words of a man, he’ll somehow reveal what he values and how much value he places on it.
Value is defined as the worth or importance of something to a person. It is also the usefulness of something to somebody. Once you walk with a man and you get to know what matters to him above all else, ask yourself if you really want to stick out with him or quit the relationship.
A man with a wrong value system will definitely end up in ruins.
In our focal scripture, Eliab subtly reveals his value system and it helped me to understand why God couldn’t do much with him. As a matter of fact, God told Prophet Samuel specifically not to anoint him because he has rejected him.
1Samuel 17:6 “And it came to pass, when they were come that he looked on Eliab, and said Surely the LORD’S anointed is before him.”
1Samuel 17:7 “But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”
We can deduce from 1Samuel 17:7 that, God had given Eliab an examination which he failed woefully. This was definitely not their first meeting.
Something was wrong with the choice of Eliab and our focal scripture gave us a clue to why God refused him. It was all about his value system.
To be continued…
