1Samuel 17:8 “And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me.”

…From yesterday…

1Samuel 16:12 “And he sent and brought him in Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said Arise anoint him: for this is he.”

We can also see from the scripture above that real men have regard for God and resemble Him, that is the meaning of having a “beautiful countenance”. Real men reference God. You cannot be called a man if you have no regard for the Father of all fathers, Jehovah God Himself.

Real men are those that have mastered how to bow before God. If you ever met a man who have no regard for God, run away from him quickly before he infect you.

A man by God’s definition is also one who works on himself or herself to be diligent in following God. Such folks gradually resemble Him in character becoming more and more like Him daily.

Another thing we noticed in the life of David is what was said about him in 1Samuel 16:12. The bible says, “and goodly to look to”. To be goodly is another characteristic of somebody God can call a man. The Hebrew word used for “goodly” as used here means ‘to be joyful”, “kindly” and “kindness”.

This quality talks mainly of our character. Until you work on your character you are not qualified for the best of God. Immediately after the bible described David as goodly to look to, it says God commanded Samuel to anoint him.

Could it be that the reason God has not been able to entrust the anointing to you is because of a foul and offensive character.
